AI is Smart. People are Smarter.
Lessons from Olivia AI on Building Community Around Tech
Before diving into the tech world, I built and nurtured a thriving baking community. Starting from scratch, I leveraged effective content and community strategies to grow my community from 0 to 20,000 passionate members organically in 3 years. This experience laid the foundation for my current role as a community manager.
I have been in the Web3 (well, short enough 😆) and community space long enough to know one thing: tech alone isn’t enough. You can have the most advanced product, the best blockchain, or the smartest trading insights - but without people actively using it, engaging with it, and sharing their experiences, it’s just another cool product lost in the noise.
That’s exactly why I am excited about what Olivia AI is building — not just because it’s an AI-powered super app built on TON (The Open Network) that helps users trade smarter, but because of how they’re intentionally building their community around it.
And trust me, that’s where the real magic happens!!!
If you don’t know already (in more detail), Olivia AI is an AI-powered trading companion built on TON Blockchain.Think of it like your smart friend in crypto, giving you real-time market insights, trading recommendations, and tools to help you navigate the wild world of DeFi and trading.
But here’s what’s special - Olivia AI isn’t trying to replace community; it’s leaning into it.
So How Are They Building Community the Right Way?
1. Making AI Feel Human & Approachable
I have seen firsthand how intimidating AI can feel to newcomers. It’s like, “Oh great, another complex tool I probably won’t understand.” But the magic happens when we break it down, make it relatable, and show how it actually helps people.
What they’re already doing:
Hosting casual Q&A sessions - We do this via the “Power Hour Show” organized by the community lead, where people ask questions without feeling dumb and are taught how to prompt the AI.
Creating relatable memes (seriously, never underestimate the power of a good meme).
2. Creating a Safe Space for Learning & Experimentation
What I love most about Olivia AI’s community is that it doesn’t feel like a place where you have to “know it all.”
In fact, they’re cultivating a vibe where it’s okay to say:
"Hey, I’m still figuring this out."
I personally relate to this because I am still learning and relearning a lot about blockchain — even down to how I pronounce some crypto words (yes, I still say HODL in my head before saying it out loud 😅).
What Olivia AI does well:
Weekly X spaces from different members teaching people about Olivia AI, and how to prompt it
Open feedback loops
Shouting out contributors who help other members learn
3. Memes, Culture & Inside Jokes
Honestly? No Web3 community thrives without vibes.
Olivia AI’s community does an excellent job of weaving in culture, jokes, memes, and even regional references that make people feel seen — especially in their Nigerian & African sub-communities.
Because people don’t connect to code - they connect to culture.
What’s the lesson for community managers?
→ Make your product feel like a person.
→ Create content that doesn’t assume knowledge.
→ Build systems for your community to participate, not just watch.
→ Lean into local culture — global product, local energy.
At the end of the day — the future of AI in crypto is exciting, but what will make projects like Olivia AI stand out isn’t just their tech.
It’s their people.
It’s the traders, creators, community managers, and everyday users sharing their wins, lessons, and memes that give life to the product.
That’s the real alpha.
